Das Kirchenlied wurde durch The Carter Family unter dem Titel "Can the Circle Be Unbroken (Bye and Bye)" recht populär. Das Lied war 1935 einer der Tophits der Country-Musik. Der Text wurde mehrfach verändert. Oft wird berichtet, dass die Mutter oder ein Gemeindemitglied zu Grabe getragen wird, und eine Lücke hinterlassen hat. Die vorliegende Textfassung stammt aus dem Buch "Alexander's Gospel Songs. New York: Fleming H. Revell Company" aus dem Jahr 1908 (Lied 55).

Wenn aus einem Dur-Akkord ein Dur7-Akkord wird (hier G - G7) so ist es durchaus üblich, den Septimakkord nur durch eine 7 abzukürzen.
